Mattress Nerd

Dad was a mattress buyer for a big corporate furniture store.

He used to drag me with him to mattress factories

Man, I LOVED those trips.

I loved the nuts and bolts of mattresses,

watching the workers put them together,

all of them salty, interesting guys

with gnarled fingers from upholstering.

Dad would bring me along as part of his sales process.

I mean, who could refuse a dad and his kid?

Dad’s retired now,

but i’m still a mattress nerd.

I’ve even slept on the floor for a couple of weeks

to find out the best sleeping position for my body.

My wife thought it was weird too.

I’ll tell you more about it another time.
