Jerry Rohrs: The Giver

Jerry Rohrs: The Giver

"It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye," The Little Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

40 Years

In 1985, Jerry Rohrs and some volunteers dropped off a used washing machine to a woman in Napoleon. This was the first delivery and start of a 40-year journey, providing used furniture, mattresses and other home goods to people in need all over Northwest Ohio, for FREE. This was also the beginning of a ministry, helping the less fortunate, providing opportunities for others to serve, and meeting an often unseen need in our community.

Blessing: Receiving and Giving

To move heavy things requires willing bodies and definitely some muscle. What has occurred over the duration of Jerry’s service has included a multitude of community members to operate, all who donate time, resources and physical wherewithal to serve as a blessing to Northwest Ohio. A further testament of Jerry’s leadership includes the number of people who were on the receiving end of help at some point, who then turned around and became volunteers to help others.

The receiver becomes the giver…along with it, the blessing of sustaining a lifelong mission.

Thank you to Jerry Rohrs and all those who have served over the years. The positive impact made on our community has been tremendous.

Side Note: The Giver Mattress Connection

Jerry Rohrs is a 1965 graduate of Liberty Center High School. 60 years later, the Leadership Class at Liberty Center High School developed The Giver mattress to learn practical leadership and to raise money for charity. We hope others have been inspired by the work of Jerry, and also this class to find ways to serve in their community. Your impact matters.
